Production details

SHOWCASE Manchester is delighted to return to The Lowry in 2007 for its 16th annual concert. Since it was started in 1991, Showcase Manchester has raised over 80,000 for deserving charities, and the team of talented performers and producers continue to give their time and effort to make this year no exception. This year’s concert will feature over 250 performers from 7 theatre groups from across Greater Manchester each performing an excerpt from musicals old and new. This year’s programme includes the following: All Saints Musical Theatre – Rent. North Manchester – Spamalot. Prestwich Theatre Group – 42nd Street. Romiley Operatic Society – Buddy. Sale and Altrincham Musical Theatre – Rocky Horror. Salford Musical Theatre – Jekyll & Hyde. Whitefield Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society – Starlight Express. The chosen charities that will benefit from this year’s event are Henshaws Society for Blind People (www.henshaws.org.uk) and Kidscan (www.kidscan.org.uk). In 2006 a total of 3,600 was raised for the chosen charities, which were St Ann's Hospice and the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Showcase was started in 1991 by Saunie Williams, who had the idea to bring together seven musical theatre groups, with the sole purpose of performing in a major theatrical venue to raise money for a local charity. Sadly, Saunie lost her own personal battle against cancer in 1999. But her legacy goes on. Showcase is proud to support North West based charities and 2007 marks the 170th birthday of Henshaws Society for Blind People. The charity was founded in 1837 following a generous legacy of 20,000 from local businessman Thomas Henshaw. Today Henshaws provides caring, practical and imaginative services to 3500 blind and visually impaired people across the North of England. The 170th anniversary will be marked throughout the year with a number of special events and fundraising initiatives Lyric
