A Slight Disagreement
T0
The painter Fiona Rae, the photographer Rut Blees Luxembourg and writer and lecturer in historical and cultural studies at Goldsmiths College Jean-Paul Martinon, come together to talk for an hour about a single work by one of the masters of contemporary art, Gerhard Richter, the great German artist whose retrospective finished at MOMA in New York recently. Despite the maelstrom of words about contemporary art, few have been devoted to a sustained interrogation of a single work; general reflections have seemed either more appropriate or easier. This event provides an opportunity to examine a single work, to reflect on what kinds of critical languages are appropriate to contemporary art, and to consider possible intellectual grounds of judgment.
