An Evening with Sir Chris Bonnington
T0473018387
Having spent a lifetime climbing to the top of the world, Sir Chris Bonington is Britain's best known mountaineer, and one of the most successful expedition leaders in history, who now brings a brand new ?audience with...' style lecture show, An Evening with Sir Chris Bonington, to theatres across the UK, presented by adventure-based speakers specialists, Speakers from the Edge. Sir Chris began climbing at the age of 16 and has undertaken 19 Himalayan expeditions, including four to Everest. He is renowned for having made many first ascents in the Alps and all the greater mountain ranges of the world; such achievements do not come easily and several expeditions Sir Chris participated in have been fraught with casualties, tragedy and even fatalities. After leaving a potentially fulfilling career with Unilever as a young man, Sir Chris was the first mountaineer to forge a career on the lecture circuit, but it has been twenty years since his last tour. This autumn, Sir Chris will present a brand new ?life and times? talk, covering his sixty years spent in the mountains. With original images and raw footage, this is a rare opportunity to hear about some of the greatest expeditions of the twentieth century, from one of the greatest mountaineers in history. He has led or joined expeditions with most of the highly notable British mountaineers, including Doug Scott, Joe Tasker, Peter Boardman and Dick Renshaw. In 1976 Sir Chris was included in the honours list for a CBE (for the previous year's successful ascent of Everest) and later, in 1996, with a Knighthood.
