Ultimate Explorer - T01594443244

In a brand new show, adventurer-explorer Benedict Allen tells the whole unvarnished truth of his most recent adventure - a solo expedition to Papua New Guinea, during which he filmed his journey to visit a community he had befriended thirty years earlier - when he hit the headlines after failing to turn up for a flight to Hong Kong, prompting his friends and family, and eventually the world media, to become concerned for his wellbeing. Benedict will recall the highs and lows of this awe-inspiring trip, tell exhilarating tales from his life as an explorer and show never-before-seen material from his travels across the globe.

T515249949

Benedict Allen is one of Britain’s most prominent explorers, travelling alone using the survival skills he has learned from remote tribal people. If Benedict Allen was a cat, he’d have used up six of his nine lives by now: at the age of 23 he was attacked by gold miners in the Amazon and, fleeing through the forest, was forced to eat his own dog to survive; two years later he underwent a harrowing initiation ceremony in New Guinea; since then he has been shot at, poisoned and, more recently, he almost died when he was separated from his dog team in Siberia in what turned out to be the worst winter in living memory. His belief in exploring wildernesses without modern back-up systems like satellite phone or GPS navigation makes his solo expeditions particularly precarious. Likewise, he usually travels without camera crew, making him the only TV adventurer to truly convey the genuine experience of danger and isolation in the field. Arguably, he has the most dangerous job seen on television! As well as numerous TV series for the BBC, Benedict Allen has also written nine books, including two best sellers, and he will be selling and signing his books on the evening.

Into the Abyss - T321921525

What keeps an explorer going, step after step, into a blizzard when there seems to be no hope? Benedict Allen, attempts to answer these questions sharing his scariest experiences - whether being shot at by drug barons, initiated as a ‘crocodile man’ in a secret ceremony, fleeing from Amazon gold miners, or being abandoned by guides. With his usual humour he conveys what it’s like to have faced the abyss - whether alone in the jungle, or in Siberia, as he reveals previously untold episodes of his journey with dogs in the worst winter in living memory.
