Details

Two of the Arab world's leading novelists discuss the conflict between home and exile in their life and writing. Edwar al-Kharrat's novel, Stones of Bobello, is a lyrical meditation on life in the Nile Delta in the 1930s, combining philosophical and psychological perspectives to create a vivid sense of place. Translator Paul Starkey reads from the English. Iraqi born Salim Matar won the al-Naqid Award for his novel, The Woman of the Flask. Reflecting the complexities of the world of the exile, the book mixes the surreal with the real in the life of a man escaping Saddam's Iraq. Peter Clark reads from his English translation. Chaired by Samira Kawar
