Theatre of the Grotesque in Italy is the subject of a Conference jointly organised by the Italian Cultural Institute and the Italian Department of the University of Strathclyde. An important movement in Italian drama which started around 1900, it took its name for La Maschera e il volto, a play by Luigi Chiarelli, described by its author as 'a grotesque in three acts.' Other authors associated with the movement include antonelli (Il Maestro) and Rosso di San Secondo (Marionette, che passione!) Speakers will include Paolo Puppa of the University of Venice Ca' Foscari, Pietro Frassica of Princeton University, Franca Angelini and Giorgio Patrizi of the University of Rome La Sapienza, and Luciano Paesani of the University of Pescara. Antonelli's Il Maestro will be performed both nights.
