Dancer, director, choreographer, actor, TV panellist and national treasure Wayne Sleep talks to the Editor of The Chiswick Calendar, Bridget Osborne. For those who love ballet, Wayne Sleep was known as the Principal Dancer of the Royal Ballet, for whom roles were specially created by the likes of Rudolf Nureyev and Ninette de Valois. But for the rest of us he entered the national consciousness in 1985 as 'the dancer who danced with Princess Diana' in a performance at the Royal Opera House. From then on his amazing talent as a dancer and his good humour and bubbly personality stayed in the national spotlight as he crossed over from classical ballet to popular entertainment on the stage and on TV. Fresh from his role as the Genie of the Ring in Aladdin at Milton Keynes Theatre, he talks to Bridget Osborne about his life and career. The profits from ticket sales will go to The Wayne Sleep Foundation, which provides scholarships for talented youngsters to further their training in all areas of theatre and dance.
