Irvine Welsh's The Bedroom Secrets of the Master Chefs is a brilliant examination of identity and the need to belong in the world, with more than a nod to Jekyll and Hyde and Dorian Gray. Troubled environmental health officer Danny Skinner is engaged on a quest to uncover 'the bedroom secrets of the master chefs', but the hard-drinking, womanising Skinner has a nemesis in the form of model-railway enthusiast Brian Kibby. Skinner's obsessive hatred of Kibby takes over and threatens to destroy them both.
