Reinventing the Public Sphere
T0
Geoff Mulgan in Conversation with Scott LashThe third in a series of talks exploring the changing relationship between 'public' and 'private'. This evening Geoff Mulgan, is in conversation with Scott Lash. Is the public sphere, in a political and cultural sense, under threat from institutional meltdown? What of the associated challenge to values, created by both a postmodern pluralism and the dominance of economic motives and judgements? How might we reinvent a sense of the public realm? What effect will the new network society have on the changing public realm - and what might it look like in 20 years' time? Mulgan is director of the Performance and Innovation Unit at No 10, founder and former director of Demos; Lash is director of the Centre for Cultural Studies and professor of Sociology, Goldsmiths.
