One of our most distinguished poets, Dannie Abse has produced eleven volumes of verse since 1946. His novel 'The Strange Case of Dr. Simmonds and Dr. Glas' was launched earlier this year at Cardiff City Football Club, a fitting venue for a Bluebirds¹ fan of many years standing. His autobiographical writings such as 'Ash on a Young Man's Sleeve' evoke the Cardiff of the past and capture his life as a chest physician. He says that nowadays verse comes less easily to him so that he writes "poems uphill and prose downhill " but whichever way the resulting work is never less than arrestingly elegant.Performer Jon Gower.
