Fathers are continually reminded by the media and Government of their rights and responsibilities, but what does it really mean to be a father at the beginning of the 21st century? Is fatherhood better understood as a genetic or an emotional relationship? Is it a path chosen voluntarily, or can the State successfully force people to be fathers to their children? Is a new and non-punitive model of fatherhood slowly emerging from the ruins of the demise of traditional gender roles? Speakers: Anne Widdecombe, )MP and author of Acto of Peace; Darcus Howe, writer and broadcaster; Stephanie Merritt, Deputy Literary Editor, The Observer and author of Real; Matt O'Connor, Founder of Fathers 4 Justice. Chair: Dave Hill, journalist and author of Single Men.
