Wensleydale to the West End, Bedale to Broadway (& Beyond)

The stage version of The 39 Steps has been spotted in Athens, Aachen, Brisbane, Berlin, Budapest, Buenos Aries - the list goes on. So how did a play that was first performed at the Georgian Theatre Royal make it round the world? North Country Theatre launched their version of The 39 Steps on an unsuspecting world in 1996. Eleven years later, reworked by Patrick Barlow, it won Olivier Awards in the West End and Tony Awards on Broadway. Hear the extraordinary story of how a production went from small-scale rural touring to international success as Nobby Dimon of North Country Theatre and Patrick Barlow of the National Theatre of Brent and of films such as Bridget Jones's Diary and Shakespeare in Love take the stage. A fundraising event by Friends of North Country Theatre.
