If you are a fan of the TV series, or the film, then you are going to love this and do not need to read further into this review; have a great evening and enjoy it!
Still here? Well sorry, but this show just doesn't cut it. The story has been updated to 2014 (well, they carry iPads) but the two references to the original are confusing. The characters are over-drawn and hard to relate to as they all need to get over themselves. The singing was off at times and the dancing, whilst very energetic, was messy at best, I am amazed that four people dancing the same steps can all manage to finish each move at a different time, I mean I know this isn't the Royal Ballet but they are supposed to be the elite ...
The story just doesn't come over as the direction and acting in the non-musicals sections is just too poor to relate to ... I exclude Landi Oshinowo from this as she actually did try to inhabit the character and has a lovely, controlled voice. In the end, I just didn't care ...
General note to touring musicals; can we please stop having a post-show disco mix... if the show is not long enough then just finish early!
And a really minor point but why, on the set, is the word spirit spelled "SPIRT"?
