Groundhog Day - Update

Fri, 10th Jan 14
Another movie to stage translation?

Tim Minchin and Matthew Warchus are hoping to turn the 1993 movie Groundhog Day into a musical. Working with the original screenwriter (Danny Rubin)  they hope that the story of a TV weatherman caught in a single day loop until he mends his ways will work on the stage - there's certainly plenty of musicals that seem to have Groundhog Day musical scores! Warchus said ‘We’ll be doing the first workshop in the spring. Tim and Danny have been working on it for a while.I’ll decide where it should go — London or New York — once I see what kind of show it is. We won’t know until we run it through at a workshop.’

Update: 13 Jan 14

"Our version of Groundhog Day is going to be both instantly recognizable, and utterly different." says Tim in his blog confession that the rumours are true.
