It may be a full year till it appears on stage but the Barbican's Hamlet, which will star Benedict Cumberbatch, is already causing a lot of excitement. To be directed by Lyndsey Turner, the production promises to be a "must see" and tickets went on sale today with some restrictions to limit touting and reselling
Personally, despite the inconvenience, I think that this is a good move and should mean that as many legitimate audience members as possible get a shot at buying tickets without having to go near the secondary market (should that me "mark-up"!). For those unfortunates who can't get there I strongly suspect that there will be a live broadcast to local cinemas ....
Update: Just after the tickets went on sale, Encore had server problems due to the high demand and by the end of the afternoon were saying "Due to overwhelming demand we only have single seats left for this production. We have SOLD OUT of our main ticket stock. To purchase a single seat please call our team and they’ll be happy to help. We are working hard to secure more tickets."
Update: Encore sold out completely by 17:30 ... other suppliers may still have tickets ;-)
