The new Sam Wanamaker Playhouse will open its doors to the public for the first time on 9 January 2014 with a season of early modern drama, opera and exclusive one off performances and concerts. Priority booking will be available from 29th April and public booking from 14th May 2013.
The first ever performance in this exciting new candlelit space will be John Webster's The Duchess of Malfi, directed by Artistic Director Dominic Dromgoole. The anarchic and experimental comedy The Knight of the Burning Pestle, written by Francis Beaumont, starts on 20 February and is followed by L’Ormindo (a co-production between Shakespeare’s Globe and the Royal Opera), The Malcontent and Ellen Terry (adapted and performed by Eileen Atkins).
