The Mousetrap

A trap indeed, for the unwary ticket buyer.
Let's start with the positives. Good set, lovely theatre, some of the acting is very good. But that's it. Direction is poor, some of the acting is below par and the script is frankly insulting. If an amateur group took this to a festival they would be berated for poor choice of material and unimaginative interpretation.
The show is delivered neither as an fully updated piece nor as a period one ... it has no idea what it is and neither does the audience. You get the feeling that most people are there because they feel they ought to see it, but they ought not. For those who love this script, they would be better served if it was released for amateur production and they could see it for a few pounds at their local club rather than ending up resenting the time and money wasted here.
Sorry, but this should not be allowed to survive.
