Soho Songs - A New Song Cycle - T1862649881

Soho Songs by performer and songwriter Barb Jungr and composer, the legendary Level 42's Mike Lindup features an ensemble cast of four fabulous singers with a trio of stunning musicians. Soho. A magical place. Where everyone comes to make their dreams come true. A pub bar. A day dawns. The homeless person sees everything. The Landlady prepares for another bloody scrap to keep her pub open, as Soho is eroded by developers' who eat the past and regurgitate everything into another block of super flats. Trafficked women, bouncers, the pit musician, drag queens and burlesque dancers, croupiers, actors and luvvies, dancers and chancers; they all come to the legendary Shangri-La pub to share their stories, have a laugh or to tell their tortured tales. As the night welcomes another dawn, the disco lights spin on, the glamour fades and the homeless man returns to his pitch. Come and join us at Shangri-La before last orders. For some time Barb Jungr, entranced by its unique history and her experiences of working there for the last 40 or so years as a singer and performer, wanted to make a piece of work about Soho. Mike Lindup's relationship to Soho is formed over half a century, as a child visiting with his parents, both of whom were working musicians and as an adult as a musician himself, both in the pit and on stage. Soho Songs is their homage to London's most extraordinary square mile.Director Peter Glanville.

Forgetful Heart - Dylan and Cohen and Love - T0156376043

"Possibly our greatest interpreter of Dylan's songs," Barb Jungr returns with a brand new collection, "Forgetful Heart", with love songs by Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. With "Forgetful Heart," Barb continues her love affair with the work of two of the most important songwriters of the 20th Century. Through the lockdown she has thought about love, and in particular the love songs of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, from their earliest explorations to their most recent recordings. In 2014, working with Simon Wallace, Barb released "Hard Rain," laying herself bare to Dylan's and Cohen's political and philosophical songs. But "it's now time for love," she says. "How to love more and with more freedom. How to love everyone and everything. How to be free of all the pettiness of life and elevate to the beauty and purity of love. And who better to turn to than Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, two of the greatest alchemists of love ever, in all of its wild wonder." Working with her longstanding collaborator Jenny Carr, Barb will include Forgetful Heart, What Happens To The Heart, If You Gotta Go, Go Now, I've Made Up My Mind To Give Myself To You, and So Long Marianne, among more treasures. Bob, Brel & Me - T01098057573

Barb Jungr's reputation as ?one of the world's great cabaret singers' (Time Out New York) may have gone to her head, as she will now only sing songs by writers whose names start with the letter B. But this means she can return to two colossi of popular song, whose writing has helped define her whole career. Any performance of an existing song is a conversation between the writer and the singer, and the conversation between Bob, Brel and Barb is a particularly stimulating one, not least because of the way in which gender informs all of their work. Things could get heated. Uh-oh. In this brand new collection for 2019, Barb turns her acclaimed ability at reinvention and reinterpretation to a set of Dylan and Brel songs she has never tackled before on stage, all in original arrangements. They include 'Les coeurs tendres' (The tender hearts), 'Voir un ami pleurer' (To see a friend break down and cry), 'Mr Tambourine Man' and 'This Wheel's on Fire.

Barb Jungr Sings Bob Dylan - T0563746153

This electrifying show brings together the very best of the Dylan material that Barb Jungr has perfected over the past 15 years. Songs which are fierce, political, passionate and romantic, performed in a voice which is "shockingly expressive, with an astonishing palette of colours" (The Observer), something which may or may not be true of Dylan's own vocal technique. But whilst he might not schlep to Scandinavia to collect, this is a songwriter of genius who always delivers.
