Late Night - Moon and Stars - T02002603936

A chance to hear the 9,999 pipes of the Royal Albert Hall's organ put through their paces by organist and TikTok star Anna Lapwood in her solo Proms debut. Stars shine and moonlight gleams in a late-night programme that gazes on the heavens through the eyes of Philip Glass, Claude Debussy, Kristina Arakelyan and Ghislaine Reece-Trapp. We'll travel on out into the universe with Anna's own organ versions of music by Ludovico Einaudi and film composer Hans Zimmer, all in cinematic close-up.Performer Anna Lapwood (Organ).

Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony - T1997398215

From the explosive energy of Bernstein's Candide overture to the heart-tugging pathos of Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 4, rising-star Canadian conductor Jordan de Souza makes his Proms debut with a programme that runs the gamut of human experience and emotion. Young Swedish violinist Johan Dalene (currently a BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist) is the soloist in Barber's Violin Concerto - its long-breathed lyricism a foil to the charged concision of centenary composer George Walker's Variations for Orchestra. At the climax of the programme is Tchaikovsky's deeply personal Fourth Symphony, a musical exploration of the 'inexorable power' of fate.Performer Johan Dalene (violin). Company BBC Symphony Orchestra. Conductor Jordan de Souza.

Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra I - T0303456257

One of Europe's greatest orchestras, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, returns to the Proms under Chief Conductor Mariss Jansons. In the first of two concerts (see also Prom 17) they pair two contrasting symphonies in a programme that moves from sunshine to bitterness. 'This symphony is smiling throughout,' wrote Berlioz of Beethoven's Second Symphony - a work in which seemingly sunny moods conceal personal tragedy and loss. Loss and anger move to the foreground in Shostakovich's 10th Symphony, a work in which brutality and anguish speak emotively of life in Stalin's Russia.Company Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Conductor Mariss Jansons.

Paul Lewis plays Beethoven's 'Emperor' concerto Paul Lewis plays Beethoven's 'Emperor' concerto - T0647244786

Life is celebrated and loss mourned in music spanning over 200 years. The BBC Philharmonic and its Principal Guest Conductor Ben Gernon pair Beethoven's majestic final piano concerto - for which we welcome back Paul Lewis, who played all five Beethoven piano concertos in the 2010 season - with Brahms's sunny Second Symphony, whose lyrical, pastoral spirit harks back to the earlier composer's own 'Pastoral' Symphony (No. 6). The concert opens in a more sombre, contemplative mood with the world premiere of Tansy Davies's What Did We See? - a meditation on death, healing and transcendence that builds on material from the composer's recent 9/11-inspired opera Between Worlds.Performer Paul Lewis (piano). Company BBC Philharmonic. Conductor Ben Gernon.

Prokofiev, Qigang Chen & Rachmaninov - T1235410035

Following last night's Prokofiev piano concerto cycle, tonight's Prom opens with the Russian's bright and joyous ?Classical' Symphony, which surprised critics of the young firebrand composer with its formal elegance. It's paired with Rachmaninov's Second Symphony ? beloved for its intimate, lyrical slow movement. Rachmaninov might be the original composer of the ?big tune', but it's an instinct China's Qigang Chen - a pupil of Messiaen - shares. East and West come together for his evocative Iris d?voil?e, pairing traditional Chinese instruments with Western harmonies. Finish time approx 21:00Performer Meng Meng (soprano). Performer Anu Komsi (soprano). Performer Piia Komsi (soprano). Performer Jia Li (pipa). Performer Jing Chang (zheng). Performer Nan Wang (erhu). Company BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Mozart, Ravel & Jonathan Dove - T0629157154

Turbulent mythical love and poised Classical elegance come together in a concert that shifts from Jonathan Dove's large-scale orchestral work Gaia Theory to the intimacy of the Viennese salon in Mozart's ever-popular Piano Concerto No. 23. Commissioned by Serge Diaghilev, Ravel's ballet Daphnis and Chloe is rich in all the colours and rhythms of turn-of-the-century Paris - a masterpiece that announced its composer as a force with which to be reckoned. Smetana, Prokofiev & Dvorak - T01892111432

After last year's sensational complete Ma vlast comes Smetana's autobiographical E minor quartet, in George Szell's orchestration, another first for the Proms. Its finale is suddenly interrupted by a graphic illustration of the onset of deafness, a sustained high E, here on piccolo as well as violin, imitating the tinnitus that afflicted the composer. By contrast Prokofiev's concerto is one of his magical fairy-tale pieces, championed tonight by Proms debut artist, Vadim Gluzman. Dvorak's dark, passionate Seventh Symphony was commissioned by the Philharmonic Society of London, the composer himself crossing the Channel to direct the premiere. BBC Symphony Orchestra - T202110087

Continuing our Schumann symphony cycle in the bicentenary of the composer's birth, the Third is the most pictorial, evoking by turns a beer garden by the Rhine and the Gothic magnificence of Cologne Cathedral. Stockhausen's festive overture from 1977 opens the programme, which also features a trio of recent British works. Finish time: approx. 22:05Conductor Oliver Knussen. Company BBC Symphony Orchestra.
