Organ Recital with Isabelle Demers - T01774794006

Canadian organist Isabelle Demers makes her Proms debut, putting the Royal Albert Hall's mighty 9,999-pipe organ through its paces. The rigour of Bach and Reger (born 150 years ago) contrasts with lighter pieces by Coleridge-Taylor and William Grant Still and a world premiere from Canadian composer Rachel Laurin. This is all framed with the drama of excerpts from stage-works by Wagner and Prokofiev.Performer Isabelle Demers (organ).

Ivan Fischer & Budapest Festival Orchestra (1) - T193882895

The intoxicating energy of their performances makes any appearance by Iv?n Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra a highlight of the season. In the first of their two Proms together, they pair Mahler's best-loved symphony ? the vivacious Fourth, with its jingling sleighbells and child's-eye vision of heaven ? with two works exploring the unusual relationship between strings and percussion: Bart?k's dynamic Music for Strings, Percussion and Celesta and Enescu's Pr?lude ? l'unisson, with its slow-build tension.Performer Anna Lucia Richter. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - T0679762377

The story of Mozart's last months is almost as remarkable as the string of masterpieces he produced during them. Who was the cloaked figure rumoured to have commissioned Mozart to write the Requiem? We'll never know, but the deathly tread, furious fight and radiant hope of the music remain unparalleled. Ivan Fischer brings his equally exceptional Budapest Festival Orchestra to the Proms, joined by one of Europe's leading choirs for the Requiem, alongside the autumnal shades of Mozart's late Clarinet Concerto.Performer Akos Acs (clarinet). Britten, Raymond Yiu, Nielsen & Janacek - T349032864

Proms regular Edward Gardner continues this year's Nielsen anniversary celebrations with the Flute Concerto - a work that expresses what Nielsen perceived as the instrument's 'Arcadian' quality. This gentle, pastoral quality battles, however, with darker forces, characterfully symbolised by the bass trombone. Both Janacek's Sinfonietta and Britten's Sinfonia da Requiem are also vivid expressions of contrast - in mood, texture and colour. The five movements of the Sinfonietta are all scored for a different - and sometimes unlikely - combination of instruments, while the three episodes in Britten's elegiac Sinfonia da Requiem paint different stages of mourning, from grief, to anger and finally an uneasy acceptance. Finish time approx. 21:45Performer Andrew Watts (counter-tenor). Performer Emily Beynon (flute). Company BBC Symphony Orchestra. Conductor Edward Gardner.

The unique atmosphere of a Late Night Prom is the perfect setting for this tumultuous spiritual journey, in which we acknowledge doubt and search for redemption. Worlds Routes Prom - T01398393019

Following last year's riotous celebration of Colombian music, this year BBC Radio 3's World Routes Academy turns east to the former Soviet state of Azerbaijan. Eighteen-year-old Baku-born London resident Fidan Hajiyeva performs alongside her mentor, the Azerbaijani singer Gochaq Askarov. One of the most distinguished and eloquent exponents of the ancient mugham form, Askarov has worked closely with Fidan during a recent three-week period of teaching and performance in Azerbaijan. Also featuring on the bill are the guitar-driven ?desert blues' of Tinariwen, from the Sahara Desert region of northern Mali, and the central Malian singer/ngoni (lute) player Bassekou Kouyat? with his band Ngoni Ba - two celebrated groups fusing traditional and popular styles, who have taken the world music scene by storm. Davies, Delius & Shostakovich - T1400634117

To celebrate Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee, the Master of The Queen's Music has written a one-movement work for orchestra and additional brass sextet, promising ?a dramatic and virtuoso challenge to all concerned'. While 1934 saw the birth of Sir Peter, it was also the year in which we lost three key players in Britain's musical renaissance, Delius not least among them. His Violin Concerto has no more ardent champion than Tasmin Little. Finally, the symphony often rated Shostakovich's finest is renewed by tonight's famously high-voltage Liverpool partnership. BBC Symphony Orchestra - T0505622329

In the second of his two Proms this season David Robertson conducts two enduring works by composers who fashioned a new aesthetic out of Romantic roots. The expansive melodies and edgy pace of centenary composer Samuel Barber are at their most powerful in the Violin Concerto, played here by Israeli-American virtuoso Gil Shaham. Sibelius's Second Symphony traces a path from terse drama to great affirmation. For his new commission in his 50th-birthday year, jazz-inspired Mark-Anthony Turnage has resolved not to write 'an old man's piece'. Finish time: approx. 21:00Conductor David Robertson. Michael Nyman Band - T01852020560

Now best known for his soundtracks to such movies as The Piano, Gattaca and Wonderland, Michael Nyman started out as a musicologist, editing scores by Handel and Purcell; as a critic he coined the term 'Minimalism'; and, as a composer he first made his name by putting the music of classical masters through the Minimalist mill to generate raunchy, rhythmically propulsive, raucously energetic new works, such as his score for Peter Greenaway's 1982 film The Draughtsman's Contract and the grief-frozen Memorial (which featured in Greenaway's later The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover) - both of which are Purcell-based. Now, to celebrate the year's two big Baroque anniversaries the Michael Nyman Band makes its Proms debut with a new work echoing the Purcell and Handel pieces heard in Prom 53. There will be no interval. Approx finish time: 23:30. Broadcast Live on BBC Radio 3.Performer Anu Komsi (soprano). Company Michael Nyman Band. Director Michael Nyman (piano).
