The first act is set in a picturesque classroom that opens onot a meadow and centres on a boy and his classmates, each of whom foreshadows a character from [Prokofiev]'s masterpiece. There's the vain and self-involved wolf; the bickering duck and bird; and the cat. Narrating the action is their inventive and inspiring teacher, who guides the performers and audience through a magical day at school.
