Leila McMillan is a Californian-born London-based choreographer, teacher and performer (Crystal Pite, Wendy Houstoun). Her adventurous spirit has taken her around the world, leading her to discover the work of Venezuelan dance artist David Zambrano, the creator of the Flying Low dance technique which is now widely used by international companies such as Ultima Vez and Rosas. Flying Low focuses on the dancers' relationship with the floor but also uses speed with charged movement, making it compelling to watch. For each Wild Card, an up-and-coming artist is given the opportunity to present their own work alongside works by artists they admire. Katye is a dance artist practising as a performer with Station House Opera and Florence Peake, curator at Decoda, maker and teacher at Coventry University. One of her latest works, the running intervention (to) Constantly Vent was recently presented at the Hayward Gallery. Her practice reaches across forms and communities, informed by the belief that thinking happens differently when it is located in dancing or moving. Improvisation is a core aspect of her work, as is collaboration. This evening is curated by Katye in conversation with Charlie Morrissey, dance artist and collaborator (Steve Paxton, Siobhan Davies). Katye has anchored this evening through key questions in their evolving duet, where we are not. The performers' visceral presence makes visible the live-ness of decision making. Sound artist Graeme Miller and philosopher Alva Noe will also contribute works igniting the idea of 'preparation'.

Neil Callaghan makes work between dance and theatre. UK born and raised dance artist Seeta Patel has been championing the Indian classical dance style of bharatanatyam for many years. She has done so alongside forging a distinctive career in contemporary dance, performing with companies including DV8 Physical Theatre, and presenting work at Southbank Centre. Under the guidance of her teacher, the remarkable dancer Mavin Khoo, she has become a growing voice for the form. Something Then, Something Now is an intimate evening of dance and music from South India, featuring an orchestra of Carnatic musicians. After a solo work by Patel, she offers a rare opportunity to see seasoned dancer and musician Pushkala Gopal in an up-close presentation of song and abhinaya (the expressional aspect of bharatanatyam). This evening is a chance to witness the inherent evolution of this most expressive dance form and see it grow into the future.
