Established in 1972, it is one of the largest self run amateur theatres in the country. There are 11 affiliated societies to the theatre made up of the following: The Amateur Operatics Society, The Tinhatters, The Pantomime Company, The Youth Theatre, Musical Youth Shows, Community Guild, The Stanley Opera, The Choral Union, New Theatre Players, The Gang Show and Broughton Astley Drama Society. The theatre boasts a membership of over 2500 patrons.
