Tom Allen Toughens Up! - T1658844346

Tom Allen nearly had a fight. It involved a misunderstanding with a big man at a family party. How he dealt with it was impressive. And deadly. Tom has always been afraid of what other people think about him. And he’s pretty unsure what he thinks about himself. He’s posh, pedantic, ‘charming and dapper’ (The Telegraph), bald and gay. But is that all? His family are from South London and don’t really understand him at all. Most of all he wants to be accepted - and not get into fights. And he wants to make you laugh - no matter how tough you are. Tom Allen Toughens Up is an angry dialogue between two men which takes in garage doors, a fear of needles, polite methods of dealing with antisocial neighbours and makes Tom realise that often the biggest fight you ever have is with yourself. From the man who did his first stand up gig at a working man’s club when he was 21 but who as a teenager was the youngest member of the Noel Coward Society. A show about feeling scared, being strong and trying really hard not to get beaten up.

Women! - T1715680548

In 2005 Tom Allen won the coveted SO YOU THINK YOU’RE FUNNY? competition in Edinburgh and went on to win the BBC NEW COMEDY AWARD later that year. Since then he has performed at the international JUST FOR LAUGHS FESTIVAL in Montreal, at Manchester’s QUEER UP NORTH and has had his own highly acclaimed show at the Edinburgh Festival for the past two years. Continuing his long term partnership with writer/director John Hoggarth this year sees a second series of their celebrated THE CORRESPONDENT for BBC Radio 4. In addition, Tom plays Pip in the ongoing radio saga BLEAK EXPECTATIONS with Celia Imrie and Richard Johnson and recorded THE WOODEN OVERCOAT with Julia Davies and David Tennant at the end of last year. For television he has appeared in Channel 4’s THE LAW OF THE PLAYGROUND, BBC’s SENSITIVE SKIN, FEAR OF FANNY, and the FRANKIE HOWARD BIOPIC, RATHER YOU THAN ME. Recent films includes COLOUR ME KUBRICK with John Malkovich and STARTER FOR TEN with James McEvoy and Mark Gatiss. He did his first Stand Up gig at Bethnal Green Working Man’s Club when he was 21. He responds well to deadlines and strong women. Tom Allen: Women! Dapper, young, homosexual, BBC New Comedy Award-winner, Tom Allen, talks about the women he’s loved... but not like that.

Women! - T1607904709

Winner of So You Think You’re Funny and the BBC New Comedy Award, Tom Allen is back in Edinburgh with a new show about all the women that - for whatever reason - he has come to love. Or at least like. And always in a completely non-sexual way. Not to be mistaken for a show fit for a stag party, it comes from Tom’s position as a gay man and the curious unique brand of love that he has for the women in his life. From his first girlfriend - a brief relationship that lasted for a school trip to a Nuclear Power Station - to the flat mate obsessed with real life crime and fat people. The show takes in celebrities, historical figures, fictional characters, royalty, tramps and hookers. Each of them fabulous, strong minded and oddly fascinating. And Tom in the middle, struggling to understand who he is and how they’ve all come to be so important to him. Suitable for queers, trannies, young people, old people, straight people, straight-laced people, their friends, their families, outsiders everywhere, and, of course, your mum. Tom Allen’s most quirkily interesting, bizarrely fascinating, wonderful show to date!

A Voyage Round My Mother - T1001153455

Tom Allen is a Winner of the coveted So You Think You're Funny in Edinburgh and the BBC New Comedy gong in the same year.He grew up in London but he wants to know where he is from so he goes on a research trip to Ireland...and so do his parents. This show is packed with serenely hilarious tales of family adventures as he discovers his true roots. A tale follows full of family history, shocks and scandals, personal identity and his Mum.
