Written in 1732 for a group of student musicians who met each Friday evening at Zimmermann's Coffee-House in Leipzig to give concerts the Coffee Cantata is the nearest Bach gets to a comic opera. Coffee was the new fad of the century and while many people including Bach became instant fans, it gave other grounds for darkest suspicion.
