Swedish drummer Ostrom had stormed the jazz world with E.S.T. since 1993, until pianist and close friend Esbjorn Svensson was tragically killed in a scuba accident in 2008. After taking two years away from the music industry following the tragedy, he returned in 2010 with his first solo album Thread of Life. His first solo effort was received with high critical acclaim. The album was a work of mourning, adorned with melancholy, which seeks its own path, falling back on art-rock and electronic elements and a closer link to sounds than melodies. It went on to win Ostrom the 2012 Echo Jazz Award for Best International Drummer.
