Wars of the Roses

Wars of the RosesT656613926
Fuelled by an explosive plot and undeniable human passion, this gripping trilogy of plays charts one of the bloodiest episodes in Britain's history. Adapted from Shakespeare's Henry VI plays and Richard III, Wars of the Roses charts the struggle for power between the houses of Lancaster and York, symbolised by the red and white roses. Henry VI - Henry, in his first flush of youth and woefully inexperienced, is crowned King of England and France. His uncles and cousins jockey for power whilst Joan of Arc conspires with the powers of evil to drive the English armies out of France. Weak and dominated by an ambitious Queen, Henry's authority is undermined. In the background, ambitious York plots his succession to the throne. Bloodshed is inevitable. Edward IV - France is lost and deep hatred broods between the Houses of York and Lancaster. Henry faces a nightmare rebellion and is rendered powerless. York asserts his claim to the throne and a full scale civil war erupts. Fathers kill sons and sons kill fathers. York is cut down by the Lancastrian army yet the House of York prevails and his brother, Edward, is crowned. In his shadow another brother, Richard, lurks who will kill all to become King. Richard III - Richard longs for the crown. A reign of terror follows. Ruthless to the core, he flatters, bribes, schemes, manipulates and murders his way to power - eliminating every obstacle in his way. Once King, he exterminates all who question his right to the crown. Sick of wars and tyranny, England begins to unite behind young Henry Tudor who defeats Richard at the Battle of Bosworth signalling the start of the mighty Tudor reign.
