Salt of the Earth

T0279512949
Edinburgh Festival Fringe First Award 1988. Winner of 5 Joseph Jefferson Awards Chicago 1989. A humorous, affectionate and touching story of life in the West Yorkshire coalfields, spanning two generations from 1947 to 1988. Capturing the ambitions, joys, fears and disappointments of sisters Annie and May Parker and May's son Paul, as he tries to achieve academic success and fulfilment away from the mining community in which he grew up. Successfully weaving humour and pathos together as the family start to build their lives only to slowly fall apart as the outside world presses in. This is a rollercoaster journey across nearly four decades.
