Gounod's rarely heard, charming opera comique dates from 1860 and is based on Le falcon
a story by La Fontaine. The original production had dialogue between the musical numbers but this production uses seldom heard recitatives composed by Poulenc for a production by Diaghilev in 1924. It is paired with Rossini's entertaining burletta which dates from 1812. Both operas will be sung in the original language with surtitles.Music Charles Gounod. Music Gioacchino Rossini.
