Details

The 22-year old Handel wrote La Resurrezione in Rome in 1707 at a time when he was enjoying his first great successes as an organ virtuoso and composer. An opera in all but name, it is an exuberant young man's work, with lavish orchestration and vocal pyrotechnics. La Resurrezione dramatically describes the Easter story with brilliant musical representations of the despondency at reports of the crucifixion transformed to elation as the Resurrection is announced.
