A Stay of Execution archiveMaurice, is an old man in 1834, haunted by horrific nightmares and apparitions about his escape from France 40 years earlier, but about which he refuses to speak to anyone. When one night he reaches breaking point, his granddaughter convinces him to tell her what happened all those years ago. As a young Paris doctor in 1794, Maurice befriends Gabriel, another fugitive wishing to escape the city and they follow an escape plan devised by one of Maurice's patients. To do this without detection, they must collect a series of pages torn from a diary, which have been left all over the city. They follow the trail, via a coffeehouse, a market place and a theatre, before they end up in a churchyard where all is revealed to be ... not what it seems.
