Set in 1894, Angels explores the world of the "scuttlers" - the Victorian predecessors of hoodies. Inspired by Andrew Davies's book, The Gangs of Manchester, the play examines the lives and loves, frolics and feuds of young people in the city's factory districts and asks: how much has changed in a century of anxiety about youth, gangs, and knife-crime?
