Hippolytus, a young prince of extraordinary athletic prowess and bodily purity, despises women and sex. Aphrodite, goddess of love, wreaks a catastrophic revenge - by making his stepmother Phaedra fall in love with him. An appalling chain of events is unleashed. With an imaginative and colourful use of lighting, sound and music and an elegant visual design, Breaking Strain is a thoroughly modern and satirical reworking of the legend by Justin Butcher, whose play Scaramouche Jones toured the UK to great acclaim before showing in London.
