Ben is on the dole but motivated. He's decorating his council flat in Hackney, planning a short holiday with his lover Roy, and writing some stories for a friend. He wants to involve the local people in the renovation of a neglected lido, where he used to swim as a child. It seems his life is sorted. But someone from Ben's past visits him. Pat. He persuades Ben to put him up in the flat. Their past has a closely guarded secret that not even Roy knows about. Ben wants to move on, but Pat has other ideas. Some people can escape from the mistakes of their past. Others can't. This is a story of men trying to deal with their obsessions, men who have been neglected, men trying to free themselves from sorrow.
