Kathakali-King Lear archiveKathakali-King Lear reworks Shakespeare in a simplified version of his famous tragedy, narrated in an exotic language of gesture, live percussion and song. Through the spectacular classical dance-drama form of Kathakali, which originates from the Kerala region of India, this sensuous production tells the emotional tale of greed, innocence and betrayal using traditional costumes and elaborate make-up which can take up to five hours to apply.
