Oh Les Beaux Jours archiveFunny and ultimately moving play. Beckett's masterpiece (originally written in English in 1961 as Happy Days) provides us with an unforgettable image - under a searing sun Winnie is buried, first up to her waist, then up to her neck, in a mound of sand. Her possessions, such as spectacles and her toothbrush, are the props of her very existence, along with her fading memories. Nearby is Williie, her almost comatose spouse, who has little to offer in the way of support. Winnie becomes a survivor in a world of despar and failure.
