Mena and Svetan grew up surrounded by the sea. She's an islander. He's a Bulgarian sailor. And although they don't speak the same language, a powerful attraction becomes a formidable bond. But Mena has her loyalties, to her uncle and Shetland, and Svetan has a past, which is rapidly catching up with him. Can they love withstand the currents surrounding them? While their ship, the Ludmilla, is anchored indefinitely in Shetland, the stranded Bulgarians must find ways of making ends meet - whether the islanders like it or not. But although they're used t Ruskies, Klondykers and even Kiwis, Svetan and his colleagues begin, unexpectedly, to occupy a very special place in the heart of the community.
