The Grace of Mary Traverse archiveTimberlake Wertenbaker's The Grace of Mary Traverse was written and performed in 1985 at the Royal Court Theatre where Wertenbaker was resident writer. It was received with great acclaim and duly won the Plays and Players Most Promising Playwright Award for that year. The play concerns the journey of a young woman in her quest for knowledge, experience, equality and pursuit of power. The author's main theme is that such an endeavour requires not only commitment but also responsibility for one's actions and is the price that has to be paid for such a journey.
