The Retreating World archiveAn American Obie and Mobil Playwright award winner, Naomi's previous work Slaughter City, had its world premier with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Oxford Stage Company is producing her current play, The Inland Sea. The Retreating World is a monologue on the horrors of war featuring a highly cultivated Iraqi shock trooper from the 1991 Gulf War waxing lyrical about his love of pigeons and the poetry of Hart Crane. He seems like a nice chap despite being from an 'enemy' nation - the only question is whether he is alive or a ghost.
