Too Far to Walk archiveToo Far to Walk tells the story of sisters Clarissa and Olivia and how they are re-united after more than fifty years. After the death of her mother, Clarissa is placed in a mental institution as there are no places available in children's homes. Meanwhile her sister, Olivia is encouraged by the authorities to forget she ever had a sister. Clarissa slowly becomes institutionalised, yet on her release searches for her sister who has long since emigrated to Australia. Eventually they are re-united in Perth and Clarissa has finally travelled the distance that all her life was too far to walk. The play was inspired by a number of real life incidents concerning people who were inappropriately classified and incarcerated by pre and post war social services.
