Dangerous Liaisons - T1083862704

A story of sexual power, depravity, cruelty and deceit. In 18th century France, letters fly between the mansions of two bored aristocrats as they spin a web of heartbreak and ruin. It might seem like a game, but lives will be ruined and love irrevocably lost. From the original scandalous novel, the acclaimed film starring John Malkovich and Michelle Pfeiffer and iconic retelling Cruel Intentions, this dangerous story has been thrilling audiences for over 200 years. Now Northern Ballet bring their bodice-ripping adaptation back to the Playhouse stage, 16 years after its UK premiere. Performed concert style and set-less but with full costume, the ballet is set to Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, played live by Northern Ballet Sinfonia. You'll feel every heartbeat of this intimate performance.Director David Nixon. Choreographer David Nixon. Lighting Andy Waddington. Design David Nixon. Costume David Nixon. Music Vivaldi.

A Celebration of Sir Kenneth MacMillan. Master Choreographer: Concerto/Las Hermanas/Gloria - T086783942

Northern Ballet brings dance history to the heart of Yorkshire as we perform a tribute to internationally celebrated choreographer Sir Kenneth MacMillan, to coincide with the 25th Anniversary of his death. The Company's world-class dancers will showcase their exceptional abilities as they perform pieces by one of the art form's most influential and respected choreographers. Las Hermanas is a tense psychological drama about five sisters and the consequences that follow a life of harsh repression, Gloria is inspired by Vera Brittain's wartime memoir Testament of Youth; and Concerto is a dazzling classical piece set to music by Shostakovich. The chance to see such works performed outside of the Capital is a rare one. Experience the unmissable with Northern Ballet.Choreographer Kenneth MacMillan. Music Shostakovich (Concerto). Kenneth MacMillan: a National Celebration - Gloria - T56710225

Kenneth MacMillan's Gloria is a haunting lament for the generation lost in World War I. It was inspired by Vera Brittain's autobiography Testament of Youth, which recounts the author's wartime experiences and grief at the loss of her fiance and brother. The book resonated strongly with MacMillan, whose own father was gassed at the Battle of the Somme. Gloria was created for The Royal Ballet in 1980 and is a major work of the repertory; its depiction of the futility of war is as relevant and painful today as at the time of its creation.Choreographer Kenneth MacMillan. Music Francis Poulenc. Design Andy Klunder. Lighting Bi Besant. Lighting John B Read.

Wuthering Heights - T1893240961

Passionate and obsessive, Cathy and Heathcliffs love is as unruly and dangerous as the Yorkshire moors that surround them. My love for Heathcliff resembles the eternal rocks beneath a source of little visible delight, but necessary. As children they are inseparable, running wild and free on the moors, but over time their childish affection deepens into an overwhelming love - a devastating force that even death cannot destroy. With an original score by celebrated composer Claude-Michel Schnberg, known for his West End and Broadway hits Les Miserables and Miss Saigon, see this turbulent love story brought to life in Northern Ballet Theatres adaptation of Emily Bronts romantic masterpiece.

A Tale of Two Cities - T01935405764

Charles Darnay, the son of a tyrannical French Marquis, leaves his country on the eve of the French Revolution to go to England where he meets and falls in love with Lucie Manette, the daughter of a doctor who was falsely imprisoned in the Bastille by Charles' own father. Charles bears an uncanny resemblance to a disillusioned and dissolute English banker, Sydney Carton, who is also in love with Lucie, though he realises that she would never marry a man like him. When the Revolution breaks, Darnay returns to France in order to rescue a former servant of his father's, but is himself caught up in the Terror. Lucie, her father and Carton come to Paris hoping to rescue Charles from the Revolutionary Courts. In a final act of redemptive self-sacrifice, Carton substitutes himself for Darnay in the condemned cell and goes to the guillotine on his behalf. A Tale of Two Cities is supported by ARts Council England through Grants for the ARts and by the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.Choreographer Cathy Marston. Design Jon Bausor. Costume Jon Bausor.
