The Tempest archiveProspero, Duke of Milan, his dukedom usurped by his brother Antonio, is put to sea with his daughter Miranda and some magical books smuggled in by his loyal councillor Gonzalo. The sea casts them up on an island where Prospero, exercising his magical powers, makes a home for himself and Miranda. One day a great storm, which Prospero has conjured, breaks up a passing ship and delivers to him the members of his usurping court. Treacherous brother, fellow conspirators and old friend alike come under Prospero's spell. Shakespeare's last play.

This summer we'll be bringing back the hugely popular format of our sell-out summer 2016 & 2017 productions of A Midsummer Night's Dream. In small groups the audience will convene in a secret location and discover the scenes and characters of The Tempest in the last places you'd expect to find them. The Tempest is a promenade performance. This means you'll move around different locations throughout the performance. We're still planning the route but it'll likely be approx 2km walk. The Tempest will begin with the audience in one central location in Osney Mead, and you'll be sent more information before your performance.

Performed in Korean with English supertitles. Shakespeare's The Tempest is transported to 5th century Korea in this dramatic re imagining and adaptation of his final and most poetic play. King Zilzi, immersed in his study of Taoist magic, leaves the care of his kingdom in the hands of King Zabi. While he is away, Zabi takes control and, with the help of Zilzi's brother, Soji, banishes him from his lands. Inspired by a true story from the Korean Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms, Tae-Suk Oh's The Tempest blends extraordinary historical fact with Shakespearean fiction, infusing both with elements of traditional Korean culture and folklore. Prospero's book of magic transforms into a multi-coloured magical fan, Caliban becomes Ssangdua - a two-headed monster - and Ariel becomes Zewoong, a Shaman priestess made of straw and the protector and dispeller of evil spirits.Company Mokwha Repertory Company. Gone is the island, the sea, the storm, the shipwreck. In its place are Prospero’s darker art of mental manipulation, induced hallucinations, true love and a journey to redemption - all taking place in a factory set in Norfolk Broads. In this modern production of The Tempest, Shakespeare’s classic is relocated into a derelict factory, an ex strip joint situated in the imaginary grasslands of Norfolk Broads, where Prospero, festering with the pains of his brother’s betrayal, has fled with his young daughter. For twelve years Prospero has been developing his methods of revenge, based on the manipulation of the human mind. Now the hapless royal family has arrived and his plans are underway. Melding the text with the space, the derelict factory - complete with labyrinthine passageways and empty lift shafts - will become a manifestation of Prospero’s inner turmoil . The audience will be taken on a journey through the space, experiencing the factory with the characters as they are led to the action hidden within the different rooms.Producer Jessica Beck. Usurped by her scheming sister Antonia, Prospera the rightful Duchess of Milan and her son Mirundo must face a lifetime of exile when they are abandoned on an island filled with strange and mystical creatures. Years later, the Queen's luxury yacht is caught in a storm and the Queen, Antonia, and all the passengers are cast ashore on the island and into the hands of fate - a chance for Prospera to exact retribution or to grant forgiveness... Ant Theatre presents a bold gender-reversed interpretation of The Tempest. Set in a world where women hold the positions of authority and a young man embodies the virtue of innocence, does this alternative version give us a better understanding of the relationships between the sexes? If Shakespeare wrote The Tempest today, would he have set it in a world with women in positions of power? A modern version for our times on a story centuries old.Producer Saskia de Vos (associate producer). Company Ant Theatre Company. Director Simon Beyer. Director Caroline J Turner (assistant). An old man is comatose and near death. The play The Tempest is his last living second, a time in which his loss is assuaged and his enemies forgiven. AJTC's darkly shaded slant on the drama is directed by Geoff Bullen, Shakespeare expert and specialist in new work for the stage, with an extensive score commissioned from the internationally renowned award-winning composer [Tot Taylor]. Using an enchanting mesh of mime, masking, movement and the music of voice, the two actors conjure storms and apparitions, lay bare treasons and counterplot, and finally transport you to a 'brave new world' of love and reconciliation, all in the Bard's own words.Producer Iain Armstrong. Aand BC Theatre Company was started in 1989 by [Greg Thompson]. He aim is to make Shakespeare accessible and enriching to large audiences, highlighting the relevance of the text to today's society. The concept on which the company is based is that of no criticism. Actors are encouraged to respond naturally to what they see, feel or hear and these responses are then channelled into physical actions. Each rehearsal begins with a session of meditation, a listening exercise which encourages actors to let go of their own thoughts and improve awareness of their surroundings. The Tempest will be performed in the round - with the audience in the centre. The audience will be seated on cushioned oil drums, allowing them to turn on their seat to see events happening all around the space. The show will be lit with a portable moon - a 2.5 metre helium balloon filled with light.Company AandBC Theatre Company. Performer David Fielder.
