Having entered Parliament in 1950, former Cabinet Minister and Labour MP Tony Benn is the longest serving MP in the history of the party. He retired from the House of Commons in 2001 to 'devote more time to politics'. Benn is renowned as a campaigner of many controversial issues, including human rights and constitutional reform, and his political diaries are widely read. His latest book Dare to be a Daniel, recalls his early years and tells of the profound influence his parents had on the beliefs he holds today.
