Since he burst onto the scene in 1996, Henri Oguike has become a leading force in dance. Combining technical virtuosity with the immediacy of live music, his work has won numerous awards and given a creative blood transfusion to the world of contemporary dance. By turns thundering and gentle, visceral and flirtatious, the work of this dynamic young company. Freq is an exciting solo piece, the unusual style of the piece is quite a departure for Oguike. A classic piece of Chopin accompanies a dance that is intense yet playful. In contrast, Point of Contact bears all the hallmarks of Oguike’s choreography. Sensuality, beauty and sublime movement are laced together with Bach’s lyrical suites for solo cello. The third piece, Butterfly Dreaming, is a full Company work. Drawing inspiration from the Far East the piece explores the boundaries between what is reality and what is imagined. Set to a dramatic score entitled ‘Ghost Opera’ this is an unusual work full of wit and drama. Henri Oguike Dance Company - Freq/Point of Contact/Butterfly Dreaming website.
