Richard Alston Dance Company - Fingerprint/Nigredo/Brink/Lazy River archiveContemporary dance. Richard Alston, Artistic Director of The Place, the UK's leading centre for contemporary dance, is internationally recognised as one of the most influential and inspiring choreographers in British dance. Fingerprint is an inspired response to the intricate and inventive flow that is the genius of Bach. Fingerprint pairs the young Bach’s Capriccio for keyboard with the D Major Toaccata, a bright and forthright celebration of both subtlety and bravura. Nigredo, a sequence of intimate and intricate duets, was created by Richard Alston for RADC’s acclaimed 2007 project with the Society for the Promotion of New Music, to piano music by the British composer Simon Holt. Brink puts a new slant on Tango Nuevo, arranged here for the accordion by Japanese composer Ayuo. Sharp and dramatic duets reflect a contemporary twist on tango, driving it to the edge. (Chor: Martin Lawrance). Lazy River features a collection of songs from Hoagy Carmichael including Riverboat Shuffle, Georgia, Old Man Harlem and Star Dust. This toe-tapping, knee-jiggling music gets the whole company moving.
