Details

The Misanthrope is set in the celebrity world of the arts and media. The play revolves around Alceste who hates hypocrisy and whose determination to tell the truth becomes as destructive as his friends' instinct to avoid it. Martin Crimp's thrillingly sophisticated version of Moliere's classic satire of 17th century French aristocracy relocates the action to modern day London and is packed with topical references.
