Walker Dance Park Music is the company created by Jerwood Choreography Award winner Fin Walker and composer Ben Park in 1998 in which there is a synergy of movement and live music. Walker and Park have evolved a highly individual performance style that is vivid and rigorous. In addition, the company has very quickly earned an international reputation for fresh choreographic ideas, striking musical composition, exceptional performances, and innovative designs. In Essence, the continuing artistic development of Walker Dance Park Music sees its distinct marriage of music and movement further enhanced by plain song vocals. This marriage of music and movement remains the hallmark of the company. Essence features a stage design that delineates Yeats' ideas on the world of the self and its 'mask'. As a dance opera it exudes an ethereal mood and contemplative atmosphere, as bodies alternate between a separated and intertwined physicality. Co-produced with ROH2 at the Royal Opera House. Co-commissioned by Opera North, Swindon Dance and ICIA (Institute od Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts) University of Bath with support from the Esmee Fairbairn Foundation.
