The Bacchae - The Bakkhai archiveThey have tasted pleasure and will defend it at any cost! Pentheus wants to stop the women - these wives, these lovers and mothers who have left their homes to revel with the god of dance and wine. He disguises himself as a woman and tries to repress their desires at any cost...The Bacchae tells of curiosity and control, invasion and rage. Into a world of order and uniformity crashes a riotous band of travellers, promoting a cult of Ecstasy and Chaos. When the leaders of these opposing views collide, the consequences of their fanaticism are devastating. In this new and very contemporary version of The Bacchae the destructive embrace of opposites is examined through contemporary ignorance, prejudice and hatred. This is a play about the whole world and all time, and the endless struggles of men and women trapped between truth and delusion, heaven and hell.
