Peter and the Wolf archiveThe children's story told to words and, more importantly, music. This Christmas spectacular is based on Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf , bringing a contemporary, fun edge to this children’s classic. Narration is by famous comedian and actor Mark Little and the visuals are an original set of contemporary illustrations by Peter Mac, commissioned especially for this event by the De La Warr Pavilion. The concert opens with Mussorgsky’s Night on a Bare Mountain, which describes the dances of spirits and witches until the village church bell breaks the spell to reveal the peaceful new dawn. You will then be transported back to Imperial Russia for two colourful, spectacular ballet scores. Enjoy Tschaikovsky’s imaginative and popular music from The Nutcracker Suite, including the famous Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Waltz of the Flowers. The first half of the evening continues with excerpts from Glazunov’s evocative and colourful The Seasons, written in 1899 for the Imperial Ballet and first performed in St Petersburg in 1900. The second half of the evening is the tale of Peter and the Wolf, accompanied with a live score by the ESCC and narrated by Mark Little. This performance features unique and never-seen-before illustrations by Peter Mac. This promises to be a magical and beautiful evening, giving you a different twist to the standard Christmas offerings.
