Alistair McGowan - Not Just a Pretty Voice archiveAward-winning impressionist actor, comedian, writer and singer. One of the world's favourite operas comes to the big screen in Opera Australia's celebrated production of Puccini's romantic love story. Fall in love with the beautiful costumes, colours and the quietly mythical spirituality of Moffatt Oxenbould's classic production. Lieutenant Pinkerton has arrived in Nagasaki, where his ship will be stationed for an extended tour of duty. While he is there, he intends to live well. The local fi xer, Goro, has rented a house with a view for him, and hired the staff. All that is missing is a little wife to come home to. Goro can provide. He knows a girl. Her name is Butterfl y. Puccini's Madama Butterfl y is one of the world favourite operas, and is one of Opera Australia's most celebrated productions with acclaimed Japanese soprano Hiromi Omura in the title role. She is joined by young Australian tenor James Egglestone, making his role debut as the dastardly Pinkerton, with Michael Lewis as Sharpless and Dominica Matthews as Suzuki. And to conduct, we welcome Ryusuke Numajiri.
